Types of Residential Water Meter

The residential water meters produced by our company mainly include the following types

Single-Jet Dry Type Water Meter With Non-Magnetic Transmission Module

Single-Jet Water Meter

A single-jet water meter is a type of water meter that uses a single stream of water to measure the flow of water. It's a simple and cost-effective way to measure water consumption, making it common in residential and small commercial settings.

Single-Jet Dry Type Water Meter With Non-Magnetic Transmission Module

Multi-Jet Water Meter

A multi-jet water meter is a type of water meter that uses multiple jets or streams of water to measure the flow rate. These meters are commonly used in residential and commercial applications and offer good accuracy, especially at lower flow rates.

Multi-Jet Dry Type Water Meter With Smart Module

Volumetric Piston Water Meter

A volumetric piston water meter, also known as a positive displacement water meter, is a device that accurately measures water consumption by measuring the displacement of a piston within a chamber as water flows through. This type of meter is commonly used in residential, commercial, and industrial applications for billing and water management.

Advantages of Residential Water Meter

Water conservation incentive
Using a water meter and keeping close track of your consumption can help you detect areas of improvement and inspire you to develop efficient methods of conserving as much water as possible within your commercial or residential property. Monitoring your water usage is the first step toward conserving water.

Leak detection
Another essential benefit of using a water meter and monitoring your water consumption is that it can help you detect a hidden leak in your property. If you haven’t changed your habits and you notice spikes in your consumption of water, this might be a clear indication that there’s a leak hidden somewhere.

Water wastage detection
Water meters can also help you detect water wastage, and not just through hidden leaks. Leaking faucets and other small leaks can accumulate over time, and carefully monitoring your usage with a meter can help you indicate the existence of even the smallest leaks. With this, you’ll identify wastage and put a stop to it, reducing your bills.

Higher energy efficiency
The better you monitor your water usage and the more you do to eliminate wastage, the more energy efficient your property will be. Even though you’re wasting a small amount of energy alongside wasting water, every little bit counts toward greater environmental friendliness and reduced energy bills.

Cost monitoring
Finally, regularly checking your water consumption allows you to carefully monitor the costs of your usage and identify methods for saving money by reducing use. Couple this with wastage elimination, and you’re in for significant cost reductions.

Applications of Residential Water Meter

01/

At Homes: Water meters measure the water intake to be built and help households monitor their water consumption to save on resources and reduce bills.

02/

Commercial: Water meters ensure correct billing for water usage in a business or a commercial building and pinpoint areas with potential for better water efficiency.

03/

At factories and Industrial units: Water meters installed in factories and industrial units measure the consumption of water used in processes or for production. This aids in effective resource management and brings down costs.

04/

Municipal: Water meters measure the quantity of water supplied to different areas of the city/town. It helps ensure all consumers are fairly billed for the same and makes detecting leaks in a water distribution system easy.

05/

At Crop fields: Water meters are utilized by farmers to measure the amount of water used for irrigation purposes, thus helping manage the available resources properly and optimize crop yield.

06/

Environmental: Water meters monitor usage and flow in nature, especially in water bodies, helping conserve the environment and carry out research.

Installation Considerations for Residential Water Meters

Test the meter before installing it

Install a meter in a way that the flow of water flows in full bore in the meter

Install meter to the pipeline ensuring that the arrow on the meter body coincides with the direction of water flow

Meter diameter and the pipe diameter that the meter will be installed should be of the same diameter

Threaded meters must be installed using their meter liners/ connectors but not direct to a pipe fitting

Locations which are subjected to severe shocks or hammer should be avoided

For consumer meter installations, use a stop cock and where gate valve is used incorporate a non return valve to protect the meter from reversing when rationing or empting the pipeline. This is because all meters are not manufactured with in-build non retune valves

Where water is not free from debris strainer should be installed upstream of the meter to protect it at all times

Avoid coupling a meter direct to sluice valve, Provide a straight pipe length equivalent to 10 times the diameter of the meter up and down stream to the meter

Meter should not operate with a free discharge, there should always be some downstream resistance

Flanged meter when making a gasket to couple it to a flange make sure internal diameter is precise to the meter internal diameter

Install a meter above the ground level to avoid it from being buried Protect the meter by covering it from direct rays

FAQ

Q: How does a residential water meter work?

A: A residential water meter measures water usage by detecting the flow of water through a pipe and translating that flow into a measurable volume, typically displayed on a dial or digital display. This process relies on either mechanical movement or electronic sensors to track and record the amount of water passing through the meter.

Q: How accurate are residential water meters?

A: Association requires meters to be within 98.5 and 101.5% accuracy to be usable. This allows for an error rate of 1.5% low or high. Much like an automobile, the meter slows down and eventually can stop registering completely, but it cannot arbitrarily run faster than it was designed to run.

Q: What are the signs of a faulty water meter?

A: Your meter is leaking.
You can't shut off your water.
The glass on the meter is frosted or difficult to read.
The meter dial is obscured and unreadable.
Meter is not registering or turning.
Meter is noisy.
Meter has been run over.

Q: What is the life expectancy of a water meter?

A: Water meters typically have a lifespan of 15 to 20 years. After this period, they tend to lose accuracy and become more prone to maintenance issues. However, factors like water quality, flow rate, and meter type can also influence their lifespan.

Q: Does a water meter affect water pressure?

A: You should not notice any difference in your water pressure after having a water meter installed. Low pressure can reduce water flow to a trickle and it will take a long time to fill a kettle or a cistern. Some modern heating appliances and showers will not work below certain pressure levels.

Q: Why are water meters so expensive?

A: Water meters can be expensive due to a combination of factors, including the cost of materials, manufacturing processes, and the need for accuracy and reliability. Additionally, the market for water meters can be relatively small, particularly for industrial and advanced smart meters, which can drive up costs.

As one of the most professional residential water meter manufacturers and suppliers in China, we're featured by quality products and good price. Please rest assured to buy bulk cheap residential water meter made in China here from our factory. Contact us for customized service.
